Frequently Asked Questions

What systems do you run?

Currently, Weaver’s Tale Studios primarily focuses on:

  • Dungeons & Dragons 5.5e

Additional systems may appear for special events, one-shots, or experimental campaigns. These include:

Dungeons & Dragons

  • Draw Steel
  • Daggerheart
  • Dungeon Crawler Carl
  • The Cosmere RPG
  • Call of Cthulhu
  • Cyberpunk RED
  • Vampire: The Masquerade
  • Blood on the Clock Tower

What style of games do you run?

My games tend to focus heavily on:

  • Immersive storytelling

  • Strong roleplay

  • Cinematic moments

  • Meaningful choices

  • Character-driven narratives

  • Collaborative worldbuilding

  • Challanging and  intricate combat

The emotional and narrative side of TTRPG is where I feel excel, but my boss fights tend to hit hard and have interesting win conditions that are more that just “Kill the monster.”

Are your games beginner friendly?

Absolutely.

New players are always welcome. You do not need years of experience or encyclopaedic rules knowledge to enjoy the game. I am happy to teach mechanics, explain systems, and help newer players settle into the hobby comfortably.

Where are games hosted?

Most online games are hosted through:

  • Discord (voice & video communication)

  • Roll20

Players will receive relevant links and setup information before the game begins.

What do I need to play online?

At minimum:

  • A stable internet connection

  • A microphone

  • Discord

  • A willingness to collaborate and participate

Webcams may be optional unless specifically stated for an event.

How long are sessions?

Most sessions typically run between:

  • 3 to 4 hours

Special events or convention-style games may vary.

How often are campaigns run?

Most campaigns run weekly unless otherwise stated. Scheduling details are always provided before booking.

How much roleplay is expected?

There is no expectation to be a professional actor or perform voices. Roleplay can look very different from player to player.

Some players speak entirely in character. Others describe actions more narratively. Both approaches are completely valid.

The goal is participation, not performance perfection.

What safety tools are used?

Player comfort and communication are taken seriously. Tools commonly used include:

  • X-Card

  • Lines & Veils

  • Open Door Policy

Players are encouraged to communicate boundaries or concerns at any time.

May I miss a session?

Real life always comes first. However, campaign seats are limited and preparation time is significant, so missed sessions do not automatically qualify for refunds. Please see the Refund Policy for full details.

Are games streamed or recorded?

Some games or events may occasionally be streamed, recorded, or used for promotional content. Players will always be informed beforehand where applicable. We also often record sessions for quality review.

Can I commission private games?

Yes. Private groups, one-shots, special events, beginner sessions, and custom campaigns may all be arranged depending on availability.

What kind of players are welcome?

Everyone is welcome at the table so long as they are respectful, collaborative, and willing to contribute positively to the group experience.

What happens if there is conflict at the table?

Healthy communication is encouraged. If issues arise, I will do my best to address them fairly and respectfully while maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

Why paid games?

Professional Game Mastering requires significant preparation, scheduling, writing, worldbuilding, hosting, moderation, and performance work behind the scenes. Paid games help support the time and energy required to consistently create high-quality experiences for players.

How do I join a game?

Simple:

  • Browse available adventures

  • Book your seat by sending an email or filling in the contact form

  • Join the Discord through provided links

  • Create your character with the DM

  • Begin the adventure

Easy enough. The hard part is surviving the campaign. Haha!

Campaign Onboarding Process

At Weaver’s Tale Studios, campaigns do not begin the moment payment is made. Great long-term campaigns rely heavily on player chemistry, communication, trust, and shared expectations. Because of this, every campaign follows a structured onboarding process designed to help players settle comfortably into both the world and the group before the adventure truly begins.

1. Booking Your Seat

Once a player books and pays for their seat in a campaign, their place at the table is reserved.

2. One-on-One Introduction

Before joining the group, I will usually schedule a short one-on-one discussion with each player. This helps me understand:

  • the kind of experience you enjoy

  • your playstyle

  • character ideas

  • boundaries and expectations

  • what excites you most about tabletop roleplaying

It also gives players an opportunity to ask questions privately and become comfortable before joining the larger group.

3. Group Discussion

Once players are gathered, we hold a group discussion where everyone can meet, discuss tone, expectations, scheduling, themes, and general campaign direction together.

This stage helps establish player chemistry early and ensures everyone is entering the campaign with similar expectations.

4. Character Creation Sessions

Character creation is often handled collaboratively rather than entirely alone. Depending on the campaign, this may involve one-on-one discussions, group collaboration, or guided character-building sessions to help ensure the party feels connected both mechanically and narratively.

The goal is not simply to create strong characters, but characters who belong naturally in the same story together.

5. Session Zero

Before the campaign officially begins, the group participates in a Session Zero.

This usually includes:

  • introductions in-character and out-of-character

  • safety tools and boundaries

  • campaign expectations

  • table etiquette

  • setting lore

  • party dynamics

  • early roleplay opportunities

Session Zero acts as both preparation and a chemistry check before the first true session begins.

6. The Adventure Begins

Only after this onboarding process is complete does the campaign properly begin.

While this process requires slightly more time upfront, it dramatically improves long-term campaign health, player compatibility, immersion, and overall table experience.

Great campaigns are rarely built by accident.

Session Structure & Expectations

Session Length

Most games at Weaver’s Tale Studios run for approximately 4 hours. This tends to provide enough time for meaningful roleplay, exploration, combat, and character moments without sessions feeling rushed or overly exhausting.

Table Size

Most tables are intentionally kept small, usually with 4 player seats available. Smaller groups help maintain pacing, spotlight balance, stronger player chemistry, and more meaningful character involvement throughout the campaign.

Pre-Session Check-In

Players are expected to join the session approximately 20 minutes before the official start time.

This time is used to:

  • Ensure everyone is online

  • Test microphones and video

  • Confirm technical issues are resolved

  • Prepare character sheets

  • Settle into the session comfortably

Starting On Time

Games begin strictly at the scheduled start time, even if some players are late or unprepared.

This policy exists out of respect for the time and commitment of the rest of the group. Consistency is important for maintaining healthy long-term campaigns.

Session Openings

Most sessions begin with a short narrative recap or atmospheric description designed to pull everyone back into the world, refresh the imagination, and re-establish tone before play begins.

I believe the transition into the game matters. The goal is to help players feel immersed the moment the session starts.

Mid-Session Breaks

A short break of approximately 10 minutes may be taken at an appropriate point during longer sessions. This allows players to stretch, grab water, reset mentally, or handle real-world interruptions before returning to the game.

Post-Session Debrief

After the session concludes, players are welcome to remain for an optional debrief period of roughly 20 minutes.

This is often used for:

  • discussing favourite moments

  • sharing reactions

  • asking questions

  • discussing theories

  • providing feedback

  • planning future character goals

These conversations are often some of the most enjoyable parts of long-term campaigns.

Private One-on-One Discussions

Players are always welcome to request a private one-on-one discussion after sessions if they wish to:

  • discuss character ideas

  • raise concerns

  • explore backstory concepts

  • provide private feedback

  • discuss future plans for their character

Healthy communication is encouraged and valued.

Platforms & Technical Requirements

Games are primarily hosted through:

  • Discord for voice and video communication

  • Roll20 for character sheets and gameplay tools

Players are expected to:

  • Have a stable internet connection

  • Use a functional microphone

  • Use a webcam where possible

  • Ensure audio quality is reasonably clear

  • Arrive technically prepared before the session begins

Clear communication and visible player engagement help maintain immersion, group chemistry, and overall table quality for everyone involved.

Cancellation Policy

Last Updated: 2026

This Cancellation Policy exists to help maintain fairness, consistency, and clear expectations for both players and the Game Master. Tabletop roleplaying games require preparation, scheduling, coordination, and reserved table space, and last-minute cancellations can significantly affect the experience for everyone involved.

That said, real life comes first. Emergencies happen. Communication is always appreciated.

1. Player Cancellations

One-Shots & Events

Players may cancel their booking for one-shots or special events up to 48 hours before the scheduled session for a refund or credit where applicable.

Cancellations made within 48 hours of the session are generally not eligible for refunds, as preparation and seat allocation will already have taken place.

If the seat can be filled in time, exceptions may be considered at the GM’s discretion.

Campaign Sessions

Campaigns reserve ongoing seats at limited-capacity tables. Missing a scheduled session does not automatically guarantee refunds, make-up sessions, or partial reimbursement.

Players are encouraged to communicate absences as early as possible so the group can plan accordingly.

Repeated unexplained absences may result in a player losing their reserved seat in the campaign.

2. GM Cancellations

If Weaver’s Tale Studios cancels or postpones a session due to illness, emergencies, technical issues, scheduling conflicts, or unforeseen circumstances, reasonable efforts will be made to:

  • Reschedule the session

  • Offer credit toward future sessions

  • Or provide refunds where appropriate

Communication will always be provided as early as reasonably possible.

3. Late Arrivals

Players are expected to arrive reasonably on time and prepared to play.

Sessions will generally begin close to the scheduled start time out of respect for everyone involved. Excessive lateness may result in players missing portions of the session or, in repeated cases, discussions regarding continued participation in the campaign.

4. No-Shows

Players who fail to attend without communication may forfeit refunds, session credits, or reserved campaign spots.

Repeated no-shows may result in removal from future bookings or campaigns.

5. Emergency Situations

Life happens. Genuine emergencies, health issues, family matters, power outages, or unexpected crises will always be approached with understanding and reasonable flexibility where possible.

Good communication goes a long way.

6. Event Rescheduling

Special events, streamed games, or convention-style sessions may occasionally require rescheduling due to player count, technical issues, or organisational requirements. Where possible, players will be informed well in advance.

7. Communication Expectations

If you need to cancel, reschedule, or expect to arrive late, please communicate as early as possible through the appropriate channels.

The earlier communication happens, the easier it becomes to accommodate everyone fairly.

Final Note

The purpose of this policy is not to create rigid bureaucracy, but to help maintain reliable, sustainable games that respect the time, preparation, and enjoyment of everyone at the table.

Thank you for helping keep the adventure running smoothly.

Refund Policy

Last Updated: 2026

At Weaver’s Tale Studios, every booked seat represents preparation time, scheduling, and limited table space reserved specifically for you. This Refund Policy exists to keep things fair for both players and the Game Master while remaining understanding of real-life situations where possible.

1. General Philosophy

Life happens. Emergencies happen. Schedules change. The goal of this policy is not to punish players, but to create clear expectations that allow campaigns and events to run consistently and sustainably for everyone involved.

2. One-Shots & Events

Refund requests for one-shots, special events, or ticketed sessions may be granted if requested at least 48 hours before the scheduled start time.

Refunds requested within 48 hours of the session are generally not guaranteed, as preparation and seat allocation will already have taken place.

If your seat can be filled by another player in time, partial or full refunds may still be considered at the GM’s discretion.

3. Campaign Sessions

Campaign seats reserve an ongoing place at a limited-capacity table.

Missing a scheduled campaign session does not automatically qualify for a refund, replacement session, or partial reimbursement unless otherwise discussed beforehand.

This helps ensure campaign stability and fairness for the rest of the group.

4. GM Cancellations

If Weaver’s Tale Studios cancels a paid session due to illness, emergency, technical failure, scheduling conflict, or other unforeseen circumstances, players will receive either:

  • A full refund

  • A rescheduled session

  • Credit toward future games

depending on the situation and player preference where possible.

5. Player Removal

Players removed from a game due to violations of the Code of Conduct, harassment, repeated disruption, hate speech, boundary violations, or other serious behavioural issues are generally not eligible for refunds.

This policy exists to protect the health and safety of the table environment.

6. Technical Issues

Minor technical interruptions, internet instability, platform outages, or temporary connectivity problems do not automatically qualify for refunds.

However, if a session becomes unplayable due to major technical failure on the GM’s side, reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule or compensate affected players fairly.

7. Transfers & Credits

In some situations, seat transfers, future-session credits, or rescheduling may be offered instead of direct refunds. These decisions are handled on a case-by-case basis.

8. Subscription or Ongoing Payment Models

If ongoing subscriptions, retainers, memberships, or recurring payment structures are introduced in the future, additional refund terms may apply and will be communicated clearly.

9. Contact & Communication

If you believe special circumstances apply to your situation, please communicate as early as possible. Honest communication almost always leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.

10. Final Note

The purpose of this policy is not to create rigid barriers, but to protect the consistency and sustainability of the games being run while treating players fairly and respectfully.

Thank you for supporting independent storytelling, collaborative adventure, and the worlds we build together.
