Tabletop roleplaying games are collaborative experiences built on trust, communication, and mutual respect. The following safety tools are used at Weaver’s Tale Studios to help ensure players feel comfortable, supported, and able to enjoy the game in a healthy environment.
These tools are not designed to “limit fun” or weaken storytelling. They exist so players can engage more confidently, knowing boundaries will be respected if needed.
The X-Card is a simple tool that allows any player to pause, redirect, or remove content that makes them uncomfortable without needing to publicly explain themselves.
This may be done physically at an in-person table, through a message online, through a hand gesture, or simply by stating that a scene needs to change direction.
If the X-Card is used:
The content will be adjusted or skipped
No justification is required
The table will move forward respectfully and without pressure
The goal is comfort, not interrogation.
Before or during a campaign, players may establish Lines and Veils to help communicate boundaries.
Content that will not appear in the game at all.
Examples may include:
Sexual violence
Harm to children
Graphic torture
Specific phobias or triggers
Content that may exist in the setting but will fade to black, remain off-screen, or avoid explicit detail.
Examples may include:
Intimacy
Graphic gore
Substance use
Disturbing imagery
Boundaries are respected without judgement. Players are not required to publicly explain why a topic makes them uncomfortable.
Players are always free to:
Take breaks
Step away temporarily
Leave a session early
Privately raise concerns
No player should feel trapped at the table emotionally, socially, or psychologically.
Concerns may also be handled discreetly and anonymously where appropriate. Not every issue needs to become a public discussion, and player comfort will always be taken seriously. If concerns are raised privately, every reasonable effort will be made to address them respectfully without unnecessarily singling anyone out.
Healthy communication is encouraged, but privacy and discretion are respected.
All players are expected to respect established boundaries, safety tools, and the comfort levels of others at the table.
Debating, mocking, dismissing, or intentionally pushing past another player’s boundaries is unacceptable.
The purpose of these tools is not censorship.
The purpose is trust.
When players feel safe, respected, and heard, they are far more able to immerse themselves fully in the story, the characters, and the adventure itself.
And that is where the real magic of tabletop roleplaying begins.
At Weaver’s Tale Studios, the goal is simple: create a welcoming, immersive, and enjoyable environment where people from different backgrounds can come together to tell unforgettable stories. Everyone at the table shares responsibility for maintaining that atmosphere.
Treat fellow players, the Game Master, and the game itself with respect. Harassment, bullying, personal attacks, discrimination, intimidation, or deliberately disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated. Friendly banter is part of many tables, but there is a clear difference between joking together and making someone uncomfortable.
Please respect the scheduled session time. Arriving approximately 20 minutes early is the norm at Weaver’s Tale Studios so we can make sure everyone is online, microphones and cameras are working, character sheets are ready, and any last-minute questions are handled before play begins.
Games start strictly on time out of respect for everyone at the table. If a player arrives late or unprepared, the session may continue without them until they are ready to join. This is not intended as punishment, but as a way to protect the pacing, immersion, and commitment of the group.
Consistent punctuality helps the game feel smoother, more professional, and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Tabletop roleplaying games are cooperative experiences, not competitions between players or against the GM. Create characters who can reasonably work with a group, share the spotlight with others, and contribute to the adventure rather than dominate it.
All players have different comfort levels. Safety tools such as the X-Card, Lines & Veils, and the Open Door Policy exist to help maintain a healthy environment. If a player expresses discomfort or a boundary is established, respect it immediately and without argument.
Avoid, and do not encourage, highly polarising real-world discussions during games. This includes topics such as politics, religion, inflammatory social debates, or subjects likely to create division at the table. The focus should remain on the shared experience and enjoyment of the game.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or any other form of hateful or discriminatory behaviour has no place at the table. Fictional worlds may contain difficult themes, but real-world hostility toward players will not be tolerated.
If issues arise, communicate respectfully and constructively. Misunderstandings happen in collaborative spaces. Problems are best solved through calm discussion rather than passive aggression, public arguments, or hostility.
The GM is responsible for maintaining fairness, pacing, safety, and the overall health of the game. Rules discussions and feedback are welcome, but final rulings at the table may occasionally need to be made quickly in the interest of keeping the game moving smoothly.
Encourage fellow players, celebrate memorable moments, and help create a table people are excited to return to each week. The best campaigns are built on trust, enthusiasm, creativity, and mutual respect.
Players may raise concerns privately if needed. Concerns brought forward in confidence will be treated respectfully and discreetly wherever possible. Not every issue needs to become public at the table, and maintaining player comfort is taken seriously.
This Code of Conduct exists to protect the experience for everyone involved, including the GM. In rare situations where behaviour repeatedly disrupts the table or makes it difficult to maintain a healthy environment, a player may be removed from a game. This is never personal and will always be treated as a last resort.
The goal is, and always will be, simple:
Tell great stories together.
Welcome to the Weaver’s Tale Studios community.
Whether you are joining games, chatting in Discord, participating in livestreams, sharing memes, discussing rules, or simply lurking quietly beneath the glow of the tavern lanterns, the goal of this community is simple:
Create a space where people can share their love of tabletop storytelling, creativity, and adventure in a welcoming and respectful environment.
These guidelines exist to help maintain that atmosphere.
Treat fellow community members with respect and basic human decency. Friendly banter, humour, and passionate discussion are all welcome, but harassment, bullying, personal attacks, intimidation, or deliberately hostile behaviour are not.
Disagreements happen. Handle them maturely.
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or any form of hateful or discriminatory behaviour has no place in this community.
Fictional conflict belongs in the game world.
Real hostility toward people does not.
Please avoid encouraging highly divisive real-world arguments, including inflammatory political debates, religious arguments, culture war discourse, or topics primarily likely to create hostility within the community.
This does not mean people cannot have opinions or thoughtful conversations. It simply means this community is not intended to become a battleground for real-world ideological conflict.
Read the room.
Keep perspective.
Focus on shared interests.
New players, shy players, experienced veterans, forever GMs, chaotic goblins, and curious newcomers are all welcome here.
Do your best to help people feel included rather than gatekept.
Remember:
Every experienced player was once the nervous beginner asking how initiative works.
If someone expresses discomfort or asks for a topic to be dropped, respect that request without mocking, debating, or pressuring them.
Safety tools and personal boundaries are taken seriously.
Unless specifically allowed in clearly marked channels, avoid posting explicit sexual content, graphic material, or disturbing imagery.
A little chaos is welcome.
A cursed wasteland of unsolicited horrors is not.
Sharing projects, streams, art, or creative work is welcome where appropriate, but excessive self-promotion, spam, scams, or repetitive posting may be removed.
Support the community.
Do not use it purely as an advertising board.
Moderators and staff are responsible for maintaining the health of the community. If moderation action is taken, please handle disagreements respectfully and privately where appropriate.
Public escalation rarely improves situations.
Do not share private conversations, personal information, or screenshots from private spaces without permission.
Respect people’s privacy both inside and outside the game.
At the end of the day, this community exists because people love imagination, storytelling, laughter, worldbuilding, dramatic dice rolls, emotional character moments, and gathering around a shared adventure together.
Help contribute to the kind of community you would want to return to after a long day:
Welcoming.
Creative.
Respectful.
A little chaotic.
And full of unforgettable stories.
